Free Estimating Software for Contractors

BCTM's estimates are free to create and send, with no monthly limit. Build them from a saved price book so the same job is priced the same way every time, send them by text or email, and turn an approved estimate into an invoice without retyping a line.

Price book: price the same job the same way

Save the services and materials you sell with their prices, including labor columns for repeatable work. Anyone building an estimate pulls from the same list, so a new hire quotes a job at the same price as your most experienced estimator. Items and categories can be imported from a spreadsheet.

Send, discuss and approve

  • Send by text or email. The customer opens it on their phone — no account needed.
  • Questions go into a message thread attached to the estimate, so the conversation stays with the quote.
  • The customer approves online.

Deposits on estimates

Ask for a deposit when the estimate is approved, and the customer can pay it through the same public checkout used for invoices. The deposit is credited on the invoice later. See deposits and progress billing for milestone billing on longer jobs.

From approved estimate to invoice

Convert an approved estimate to an invoice in one step: customer, line items and job details carry over. If the job ran long, time logged by the crew can be added as labor lines. Then the invoice goes out with a click-to-pay link — see invoicing for contractors.

What BCTM does not do

  • No blueprint takeoff or measurement tools.
  • No sales pipeline, lead scoring, or marketing email campaigns.
  • No QuickBooks or Xero sync today.

Frequently asked questions

Is there free estimating software for contractors?

Yes. BCTM's estimates are included in its $0/month subscription with no limit on how many you send.

BCTM charges only when a customer pays electronically (card 3.9% + $0.30 (1% BCTM platform fee + 2.9% + $0.30 Stripe)). Sending estimates never costs anything.

Can customers approve estimates online?

Yes. The customer opens the estimate from a text or email and approves it online without creating an account.

Can I collect a deposit on an estimate?

Yes. Request a deposit on the estimate; the customer pays it online and it is credited on the final invoice.

What is the difference between an estimate and a quote?

In everyday use they are often the same thing. Some contractors use "quote" for a fixed price and "estimate" for an approximate one; check your state's rules if the distinction matters for a contract.

The contractor answer hub covers estimating and pricing questions in more depth.

Does BCTM do material takeoffs from plans?

No. BCTM has no blueprint takeoff or measurement tools; you enter quantities yourself or pull saved items from the price book.
