What is field service management software?
Software that runs work done at the customer's location: requests, quotes, scheduling, crew assignment, job records, invoicing and payment collection.
Field service management (FSM) software runs the work that happens at a customer's property: taking the request, quoting it, scheduling the crew, recording what was done, billing it and collecting the money. BCTM covers that loop for owner-operators and small crews, and is clear about the parts built for larger dispatch operations that it does not cover.

Each job has a site address, a scheduled window and assigned workers. Owners see every crew on the contractor calendar; each worker sees their own. Workers request time off, and conflicts show up before a job is assigned to someone who is out. Details are on the job management and scheduling page.
Time logged on a job rolls into actual-versus-estimated hours and can become labor lines on the invoice, so the bill reflects the hours actually worked. Worker rates feed the job's labor cost, and job margin is visible to the contractor only. See time tracking and labor costing.
Owner-operators and crews that schedule a manageable number of jobs a day and want the job, the invoice and the payment in one system without a per-technician software bill. Operations that dispatch many technicians across a metro area every day, with live route optimization, usually need a dedicated dispatch platform.

It assigns workers to scheduled jobs and shows them on contractor and worker calendars. It does not have a drag-and-drop dispatch board, route optimization or GPS tracking.
